Avis has offset more than 167,810 tonnes of CO2 since 1997 – that is equivalent to the CO2 emissions from 439,558 households' food waste in the EU each year.

Our Green Fleet

Our fleet includes hundreds of new, environmentally friendly ‘green’ cars that run on fuels other than petrol or diesel. Wherever you are, you can hire a ‘green’ car and do your bit, for example:

 

UK
In the UK, Avis has reduced its rental fleet CO2 emissions by 4% since 2005 and has recently introduced 20 Prius vehicles on to the fleet. Plus these are great if you live in London as they are exempt from the congestion charge!

We have also launched an Eco Collection, where you’ll be guaranteed a sub-120 C02 emissions diesel model whenever you rent a vehicle.

 

Avis Germany and Portugal
Honda Civic hybrids have been introduced in Germany and Portugal.

Avis Germany also has natural gas VW Tourans in its fleet whilst Avis Portugal offers hybrid cars, with low CO2 emissions - reducing them by more than 50 tonnes.

 

Scandinavia
The fleet in Scandinavia includes more than 400 ethanol-powered Saab 9-5 BioPower cars, 75 Ford Flexi-fuel and 20 Toyota Prius vehicles.

 

Italy
The fleet in Italy includes the LPG fuelled Volkswagon.

 

Spain
You can hire a BMW 1 series with stop-start technology in Spain.

 

France
In Paris, we take part in a scheme called the OKIGO initiative which allows customers who pay a subscription to have a car available 24/7 in one of the many Vinci carparks. Studies show this type of car-share scheme effectively replaces up to eight cars. Plus in 2010 we have signed up to a new public-car sharing scheme of 4,000 vehicles.

We also change our fleet very regularly, which ensures that we are using the latest low CO2 emission vehicles available and every time they are used we check them to ensure they are still running at peak efficiency.  What’s more, when the fleet is cleaned, the cars are washed with rain water which has been collected and recycled.
